A floor is the largest single surface in any room
It is also the one people touch constantly and notice last — until something is wrong with it. A hollow-sounding plank, a lippy tile edge, a transition strip that catches a toe every time. Those are all installation problems, not material problems.
Two Women Contractors installs flooring throughout Hillsboro, Highland County, Greater Cincinnati, Northern Kentucky and Dayton. We have been doing it for 27 years, and we are woman and family-owned, bonded and insured.
What we install
- Solid and engineered hardwood, including wide plank.
- Luxury vinyl plank and tile, which handles basements and bathrooms in a way wood will not.
- Ceramic and porcelain tile, including large-format and wood-look plank tile.
- Natural stone: slate, travertine and flagstone.
- Mosaic and pattern work — encaustic, penny round, hexagon and pebble.
- Carpet, runners and stair treads.
The transition is the test
There is a photograph in our gallery, shot straight down, of a multi-tone slate floor meeting new hickory hardwood. Two completely different materials, two different thicknesses, meeting in a doorway. Handled badly that is a trip hazard and an eyesore. Handled properly it is the detail you notice for the next twenty years and quietly enjoy.
The same goes for the boring parts: subfloor prep, flatness, expansion gaps, and letting mortar cure before anyone walks on it. We use levelling clips on large-format tile because it is the only reliable way to stop edges standing proud.
Floors are allowed to be interesting
One of our clients put a zebra-print runner up her staircase against black iron balusters. Another chose a black-and-white encaustic pattern for a bathroom the size of a cupboard, and it is the best room in the house. A third went with grey wood-look porcelain laid in parquet blocks.
If you want something quiet, we will lay something quiet very well. If you want the floor to be the thing people mention, we are entirely up for that too.
